He deserves admiration not only for his great knowledge of the subject he taught us at school, but because thanks to him I have understood that any human being doesn’t need only eyes to see, love, live, be a better person. He taught us the joy of learning and helped us to get the right qualification for employment. He gave us the skills and values to meet the demands of a fast changing world. What makes him special for us all - he made us realize that mind, heart, soul and faith in a human nature are the most important keys to feel  and understand what the modern world has to offer.

There was a storm brewing. The air was hot and  it got stuffy. The sky darkened. There was strange silence outside. The heavy black clouds hung low, covering the neighborhood. My dog took cover as the first flash of bright lightning zigzaged across the sky. The sky was being illuminated for a while.

 Suddenly, the next thunder crashed and rumbled nearby. Rain was pelting down, smashing against the window panes. The rhythm of dripping rain kept my body moving. After a while another burst of lightning brightened the dark sky. It was immediately followed by another loud clap of thunder which split the air. The third crack of lightning hit straight from the shoulder.  It ripped the sky like a stabbing. What is more the sound was like a barking and growling dogs. A shiver ran down my spine and my heart began to beat loudly.  I started to pray.  Curtains of rain fell from dark clouds. I felt a gush of anxiety that I was safe. 

When a sudden wind appeared, fast-moving clouds vanished. Then, we were given a reward. A magical rainbow appeared high in the sky. My eyes sparkled with excitement staring at it. The colors gave hope for a nice day. There is no way like to agree that ‘The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.’ I thought to be a part of  a superb display called ‘Sound of Nature’. It was an unforgettable experience.

Once I received a postcard with a glorious sunset. Then, I started to gaze up at it in the hope of seeing the same amazing colors with my own eyes. I imagined myself on a Baltic Sea Beach and felt free to let my mind wander.  

One long day after doing absolutely nothing in the hot sun, and needing some relaxation, I went to a beach to walk along the shoreline. Having the water splash against my bare feet and seeing my footprints erased by the waves, I forgot about everything. I felt free from my cares.

I stopped for a moment in the middle of the sandy beach, when suddenly, a light gust of wind  brushed  against my cheek. I turned to the left. What I saw was the sky filled with an orange glow. I inhaled deeply and alternately opened and closed my eyes. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The sky was on fire as if painted by a talented artist. The sun, burning orange, was like a magic ball against the perfect multicolored background. Different hues of crimson, purple, and peachy colors stressed the unique bond between nature and me.

My feelings that day embraced so many positive emotions. I realized that not many people are fortunate enough to experience that, but I did! It was like starting life anew. I am lucky. Inspired choice had directed me to a dream beach. An idyllic place to give and receive power.

As it sometimes happens, in a while, something strange crosses your path.  You get the feeling of déjà vu, the feeling you have experienced a place or situation before.  But usually there is nothing concrete, just a feeling.

My best childhood memories are of summertime in my grandparents’ small village. Thinking of their wooden house, between a railway line and woods full of mushrooms and blueberries, reminds me of the smells of fresh bread, sweet butter, hay and … passing huge locomotives.

The village was Wymysłów, situated near Czarnca, in southern Poland, where Stefan Czarniecki, general and nobleman, was born in 1599.

In 2007, in a Polish Embassy in Washington DC I saw another portrait of Stefan Czarniecki. Then my memories came back  unexpectedly. In those days there were about ten domestic dwellings and farms in Wymysłów.  I had to pass a few fields and a farm to the centre of Czarnca, where there is an old church and a shop where I shopped when others were busy.

At harvest- time I saw people gathering crops in the field and horse-drawn carts full of hay or crops. When it was very hot I sheltered under huge chestnut-trees or fruit-trees growing along the paths and lanes, or in a nearby small hazel-wood. It was nice to look at horses and cows grazing. I was afraid only of geese which often wandered onto roads.

In summertime the meadows were full not only of crops, but also wild grasses and flowers, of which my favorite was daisies. I often picked them to make a wreath to wear on my head, imagining that I was a princess or bride. I loved listening to crickets talking a stove, the chirping of grasshoppers and the croaking of frogs from the lily pond near my grandparents’ house. This made me very happy.

Not far from the farm there was  a narrow path leading to a grassy hill from where there was a breathtaking view, especially when there were flowers glittering in the sunshine. I took the view as a promise of a good future and great things to come.

All the things – views, smell. Childhood friendship and plays – everything I saw, heard, loved, enjoyed – will remain in my heart for ever. That is because that which makes our soul happy is unforgettable.

When I was a child I liked listening to different fairy-tales. Thanks to them I moved in a fairyland, met a lot of interesting characters like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Snow White and goblins. Listening to their adventures always made me happy.

When I gathered experiences in reading I was able to read by myself. Then, I became fond of Anne of Green Gables  by Lucy Maud Montgomery.  The book introduces the theme of real friendship and shows the writer’s ability to portray children’s feelings. It is exciting and well written.

The story is set in Nova Scotia. Deeply affected by her childhood experiences a girl of eleven finds her new home at Green Gables, where the Cuthbetrs live. The farm couple wanted to take in a little boy from an orphan asylum – someone they could raise and who will help with chores. But by mistake, they were sent a little girl – called Anne. Despite their first decision they let her stay. Anne makes friends with people in the sleepy country town and soon, she turns their world topsy-turvy.

Anne falls in love not only in Green Gables, but in a boy of the same age, who at first annoys her. From a strange girl with thick, red hair Anne turns into a pretty woman.

Thanks to someone’s  mistake and the Cuthberts’ love and care, Anne becomes happy. She returns her feeling, love and friendship, too. You will come delight in her story as friendship and duty turn into love.

American Dream

Wondering if an art exhibition is worth the time, effort and money? Visit The National Museum in Cracow!

American Dream is one of the largest museums Project in Poland. It is a kind of educational experiment prepared in order to commemorate the ninetieth anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and the United States.

It is organized in the National Museum in Cracow. The exhibition has been made possible thanks to the initiative of the Consulate General of the United States in Cracow.

The themes in the paintings give us the impression of travelling across America with its cities, towns and roads. The key idea of the exhibition is the notion of a journey from 1945 to 1989. Route 66 and other roads have been replaced by a network of high-speed expressways which cause travelers to lose their way and find neither happiness nor themselves.

Following the road (walking through the exhibition) you can see American icons: Marilyn Monroe, a Coca Cola bottle, John Wayne, Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Easy Rider, the Woodstock documentary – the symbol of the hippie movement.

The exhibition will help you not to lose your own way and that is the most important reason you should see it.

e. Artykułu

The article titled “A weekend for dreamers, lovers and believers”, written by Anne-Gerard Flynn, and published  in The Republican on April 29, 2011, sets out to show the last weekend as a ‘a triple home run in terms of historic events.’ The author’s standpoint was clear and made the stories of an historic space voyage, a Royal wedding and a beloved pontiff’s beatification was an invigorating reading. 

The truth is that, being used to Hi Tech, we still envisage our career developing somewhere high in the sky. But in my opinion, referring to the space shuttle Endeavor carrying six astronauts on a two-week mission to the International Space Station is nothing exceptional in the 21^st century. However, if you consider this event in the context of courage, love and faith, the significance of it can become more meaningful.

Who prefers what? That is a good question. The author did not discuss it, but simply let us look at the facts. The lift-off, the Royal Wedding of Britain's Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and the beatification of Pope John Paul II, who was pontiff from Oct. 16, 1978 until his death at age 84 on April 2, 2005, caught attention of millions of viewers in the world.

To sum up I must admit that what happened last weekend was an
interesting set of happenings. They were quite different but equally momentous but only in the eyes of some people! Regardless of your choice, wherever you were during last weekend there were hopes and expectations everywhere.

Considering everything, I would rate this article very highly. I recommend it to others as a great read of high merit.
